Uvertirom u programsku liniju Slatko i Slano, prostorno i tematski markiramo tri okosnice koncepta Rijeka 2020: voda, rad i migracije. Intervencije i murale uvodimo potiho, bez prethodne najave, zadržavajući osnovnu ideju neposredne komunikacije s prostorom i slučajnim prolaznicima.

Prostorno i tematski opipavaju margine grada, a među pukotinama i rascjepima ispod zaglađenih površina, listaju po zalihama biografskih sjećanja, hvatajući prekinute poglede i loopove posrtanja o viškove stvarnosti. Ovogodišnja je mapa Spajalice sačinjena od inteligentnih obrata logike javnih prostora, koji originalnim i učinkovitim konceptima, dodiruju osjetljive socio-ekonomske, političke i ekološke probleme.

In this year’s Spajalica we are placing the focus on a re-activation of public and urban space, with a special emphasis on revitalization of urban spots that breathe their last. These awkward amalgamations of the past, which reflect the darker side of the idea of a smooth historical progress, may be correlated with the post-industrial circumstances of Rijeka, the textures of its post-transitional reality, but also with the pervasive socio-economic discomfort. This year, we shift to summer-autumn months and migrate to the wider environment of the Museum, all the way to the Rječina River and its invisible zones. In the prelude to the series Sweet and Salty Flagship, we establish the three spatial and thematic frameworks of the concept Rijeka 2020: water, labor and migrations. The repertoire includes performances by Selma Selman and Nika Rukavina, murals by Sebas Velasco and Lonac and art interventions by Isaac Cordal and Pejac. These interventions and murals are introduced silently, without prior announcements, in keeping with the fundamental idea of an immediate communication with space and random passersby. With the concert of Pehlin Kings and the video by Ana Pečar, we connect with the one-day event of the Department of Cultural Studies titled Bachannalia – Grandma Is Not From Here and with the culinary delights of the national minorities, we shift closely to Rijeka 2020 program titled Kitchen – the Center for Creative Migrations Flagship.

In their discreet usurpations of the public domain, the artists of this year’s Spajalica are taking over its rules just to bend them, to capture our attention, to change our everyday paths and jostle us from our orbits. In their poetic politics of resistance, they point to the symptoms of social regress, which is, paradoxically, caused by a continuous pursuit of a progress that turns out unsustainable. They explore the margins of this city, both in spatial and thematic terms, and in the cracks and crannies found under the polished surfaces, they browse through the repository of biographic memories, capturing the broken gazes and the loops of stumbling against the surpluses of reality. This year’s portfolio of Spajalica encompasses intelligent twists in the logic of public spaces, which, through clever and precise concepts, touch on economic, political and ecological issues.
