EYE TO EYE TO FREEDOM by Luiza Margan is an action in public space with the purpose of changing relations between citizens and their urban environment, their views on art and of literally changing the scale and perspective in the physical perception of space. The action makes it possible for Rijeka’s citizens to face freedom “eye to eye”, i.e. eye to eye with the statue of a partisan woman on the Monument to Liberation, representing an allegory of freedom. The monument is the work of Vinko Matković, inaugurated on the Delta on occasion of the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Rijeka on May, 3rd 1955. Reaching about twenty meters, it is the tallest monument in Rijeka.

Luiza Margan is based in Croatia and Austria. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and Vienna and exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions. She was an artist-in-residence in Paris, Seoul and New York, and won the Oho Award in Ljubljana in 2006 and T-HT third prize in 2012 in Zagreb. Her work is an exploration of visual aesthetics and power structures that mark public space, memory and changes that create social values and identity. Her art practice is exploratory; Luiza combines documentary and fiction narrative via interventions in public space or installations which include photographs, collages, videos, objects etc.

Luiza Margan , živi i radi u Hrvatskoj i Austriji.
