Living without infrastructure, in constant uncertainty and existential insecurity, is the subject of Pino Ivančić’s work RUINS. Interested in delicate social matters removed from the public sphere’s view, Ivančić visits derelict spaces, paying attention to Rijeka’s neglected stories. Photographed ruins, torn down facades of buildings and decaying houses… this is the visual component/side serving as backdrop to the homeless and their stories… behind each ruin there is one human story/destiny… visiting them and being with them and discreetly recording audio materials/stories/conversations…

Josip Pino Ivančić, born at a maternity ward in Pula. Moves around everywhere. He earned his money in the close proximity of the Giulio Revelante cement factory and Servis-TESU-Uljanik, ideas everywhere. After the company’s restructuring he was made redundant, i.e. happily employed by the Croatian Employment Service with a monthly benefit of 1200 kuna. In the 1960s he began pursuing art and sculpture and soon blurred the boundaries and entered the conceptual circuit and performance scene. In the 1980s he became a member of several bands and produced other new band’s music on the new scene. In the specific social-political-cultural situation and influenced by Beuys, he designed the Social Sculpture process after the Balkan party concept. He is the most famous and the only AvantPopArtist in Istria. A proud record breaker in the number of visitors at a single event (ca. 40000 at Theatre like a Life / Life like a Theatre or Life is a Pepper). All other trivia is available in the local media.
